Karen H. Farley considered it her mission to help troubled and problem student as a math teacher for Atlantic Shores Christian School in Kempsville, Virginia for over 15 years. She really loved the people at the church and at the school. She taught her two children the same Christian values that she shared with her students at her school.

On December 16, 1988 a 10th grade student stood outside three portable classroom and began to shoot. Students and family were unclear in why he shot at those classroom as not one in which 10th graders ever used.
