Mrs. Sharon Diane Hood

Sharon Diane Beard Hood was born on April 18, 1957 to Morris Beard Jr. and Doris Jones Beard in Millport, AL. She spent her childhood years in Jasper, AL and later moved back to Pickens County where she graduated from Pickens County High School.

Sharon was a dedicated bus driver for the Pickens County School System for 27 ½ years. 

“It is with a heavy heart that the Pickens County Board of Education and its Superintendent announce the loss of one of our veteran bus drivers, Mrs. Sharon Hood, as a result of a motor vehicle accident yesterday in Pickens County. She was a dedicated and hardworking driver who loved and cherished the children she transported each day. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband and family as well as with all members of the Pickens County School System family. The family of Mrs. Hood appreciates all those who have expressed their concerns and condolences and ask everyone to respect their need for privacy at this time. The family will soon announce the arrangements for Mrs. Hood.”

The accident happened when the school bus collided with a 2011 Chevy Equinox, according to the State Troopers Office.The bus then left the roadway and struck a tree.

A total of sixteen people were injured, including 14 children. Sharon was transported to UAB Hospital where she passed away just after midnight Saturday.She was from Ethelsville.
