Catherine Tucker, “We’ll Miss You.”

On August 9, 1993, Catherine Tucker arrived for her city-paid job of ensuring the safety of children crossing a busy intersection near Lafayette Elementary School, in Long Beach, California. Catherine had struggled to raise seven children, but was known for arriving early and staying well past the time school got out to help keep all children safe from traffic. But on this day Catherine would have to try to protect herself. Shortly after arriving for her regular morning shift she was forcibly taken from the intersection by suspected carjackers. Eyewitnesses said they saw teens pushing her and Catherine fighting back before they pushed her into her 1981 Pontiaschoolcrossingguardc Grand Prix. Catherine was found dead later that day in the trunk of her car from a gun shot wound.

  1. I remember her, she was the sweetest lady ever. It’s crazy how this happened so long ago and it’s still something that crosses my mind every now and then. Sending love to her family and her!
