On September 5, 2018, Angel Hayes, 48, was helping in the pickup line at her school, Benton Elementary School, in Neosho, Missouri. Angela had been a teach for 25 years, 19 years of which were spent in Benton and her sister school Field Elementary School.

As an Grandfather pulled up to pick up his grandchild his foot got stuck in between the gas and break peddle and the car lurched forward struck Angel and dragged her 20 to 25 feet before stopping. Angel died at the scene.
