Scott Beigel died February 14, 2018 in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. He was 35.
Beigel, a geography teacher, cross-country coach, and summer-camp counselor, saved the lives of students during the shooting, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
“He cared a lot about his students,” one student, Thomas Risley, told the Miami Herald. “I’m going to miss his colorful personality.”
“Thousands of people at Camp Starlight looked up to Scott,” a summer-camp colleague, Grant Williams, told the New York Times. “He was someone you strive to be like.”
